Yeah that confuses me a little.

I think I might have casually mentioned that I have read almost all his books, and by that virtue he is one of my favorite authors, but I wouldn't say that he wields a mastery of the English language.

As for contemporary fiction I admire his success along with his ability to tell an accessible story without treating the reader like a child (something I think all contemporary writers strive for), but as for raw literary skill he will never hold a candle to William Faulkner.
