Lactose intolerance isn't an allergy fluffy 01/16/09, 16:32 | 0 | Milk allergies do exist but they're fairly uncommon (and at least according to Wikipedia the child usually outgrows them by the age of 3). Lactose intolerance is just an inability to digest lactose (due to insufficient lactase enzyme), which leads to gas, bloating, and other intestinal distress, not too dissimilar from what would happen when someone who doesn't eat beans regularly suddenly eating a pound of beans.
Anyway, a lactose intolerance is generally easy to deal with, by taking Lactaid before eating anything with lactose, and by sticking to lower-lactose foods (different types of cheese have different amounts of lactose in them). | | Previous - Next | Reply - Reply With Quote | | | | |
