Phantasy Star Online back from the dead kinda? StanleyPain 12/19/08, 17:09 | 0 | This might be old news to some people, but the other day I got a weird jones to boot up PSO on my Gamecube and just play for a little while, and it made me look up something on the internet which, in turn, led me to the Schthack Servers, a set of private PSO servers.
Since I never got the chance to play the PC version of PSO (Blue Burst) before Sega pulled the plug on it to try and get everyone to move over to PSU, I decided to give it a go and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It works pretty well (although the game doesn't run as good as I wished it did on my laptop) and is amazingly thorough for being a fan server kind of thing. Supposedly it works with all versions of PSO, including the original Dreamcast version, and cross-console users can even occupy lobbies together (though they can't play together). There's some interesting hacked-in features like a shared bank between your characters, bigger bank space, a few new NPCs here and there, a casino (like in Phantasy Star Universe), and some other tweaks. If, like me, you loved the crap out of PSO, but were ultimately let down by how inferior PSU was, you might want to give it a try. Apart from some minor issues in Vista, I got it to work without much hassle, which is tons more than I can say with any other "fan server" kind of thing I've ever encountered. There's a surprisingly large community too, which I think is a testament to the game. | | Next | Reply - Reply With Quote | | | | |
