The sidequests in FO3 are kinda starting to annoy me (a short rant)

I'm not trashing FO3, and I'm enjoying playing it, but someone needs to seriously get the developers and writers of this together, put them in a room, and slap them around a little.

My chief gripe: Virtually everyone in the game is a whiny fucking moocher that apparently can't do shit without you. And, frankly, that's just retarded. It's the fucking apocalypse and people have been living for decades and decades in this lawless waste, but when they see you, they instantly think "ERRAND BOY?"

It's one thing when "good" people are grasping at your legs asking you to do their homework for them (OH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET ME THIS WIDGET FROM X LOCATION, BUT YOU GET KARMA SO IT'S NOT ENTIRELY LIKE A FETCH QUEST, NO). That's at least partially forgivable, though still maddeningly annoying. But when it's the Mad Max/Humongous people of the wastes doing it, it comes off as more than pathetic.
I mean, you encounter huge groups of slavers or raiders with enough men and firepower to take on a small army, and the best writing Bethesda could come up with is "WOW WE SURE COULD USE SOME HELP CUZ, DAMN, LIFE SHO IS HARD OUT HERE AND WE CAN'T RISK WALKING THE 50 FEET OVER TO THAT BUILDING TO GET SOME SHIT DONE."

So, it kind of negates the good/bad karma aspect of the game. Because, either way you go, you'll still have losers asking you to do fetch quests and the rewards ultimately balance out and don't really feel integrated into the game well.

I know that open world RPGs will have to have structure to fall back on (fetch quests, things like that), but surely the WRITING could be better integrated into the setting and there could be less of the cliche "Oh I left X item at Y place YEARS AGO, please get it for me" kind of crap or "I've been hunting this guy for 40 YEARS, but let me give you his location and you can go kill him for me, huh?"
