Whether we win or lose, aren't we still fucked?

When a campaign as vicious and stupid and cheap as the McCain campaign can hold its own, when the New York Times editorial board has to pause and remind people that experience and thoughtfulness are good qualities in a world leader, aren't we beset by deeper problems than can be fixed by a new president? I mean, sure, obviously we are. You'll have to forgive me; it just struck me again that no matter who wins in November, Americans will still be the same shallow, brutish dumbfucks we've always been.
