Yet another Aquarium thread

No, I don't want to know what fish to populate my tank with. I've a problem of a somewhat more serious nature:

I just found my algea-eating Pleco (I've had him roughly six months) dead at the bottom of my tank. Upon removing him I noticed a fairly thick coating of a cotton-like fungus around the corpse. I hadn't noticed any odd behavious in him prior to his death, nor have I changed anything within my tank in the past few weeks.

My challenge to you: What killed my fish? Does this pose any danger to my remaining fish (A Dojo Loach)? If so, how can I keep my precious Loach alive?
